Welcome to our new team member Maggie!
Hello everyone, my name is Maggie and I am the new Resource Development and Training Officer. I am originally from the United States, growing up in Washington state, but I have also lived in Missouri, Oregon, and Texas.
Originally, I came to Australia for a gap-year holiday. The week that I left The States, it had snowed so much that all public transport and schools had shut down. People were snowboarding and skiing down the main streets to commute to work. A few plane trips later and I was sitting on the beach and enjoying warm weather. I am sure you can see why I never went back home!
My focus of study at university was health sciences with a focus in health promotion and community health education. I have been lucky enough to find a career which involves my passions: health and education. During my time in Australia I have had a varied work career. More recently I have worked as a Senior Training Officer within WA Health and as a Training Coordinator at WA Police.
What I enjoy most about training is the interaction with diverse groups of people and assisting in their development. My favourite training sessions are interactive and engaging as the audience will take away more from an experience than facilitation. The most rewarding outcome of training is receiving feedback that I have helped someone understand something they previously felt was challenging.
I am still learning about my role with Cystic Fibrosis WA, however I would love to hear from you if you have any training needs or ideas. Training is something that I sincerely enjoy and it’s going to be an exciting challenge to learn more about cystic fibrosis and organise educational resources that will suit various audiences. I genuinely look forward to the opportunity to meet everyone within the CF community and I hope to hear from you soon!
