Telethon Supporting Vulnerable CF Families

Telethon Supporting Vulnerable Families and Regional Outreach

Thank you to Telethon, who have once again funded our Vulnerable Families and Regional Outreach programs in 2022.

Supporting Vulnerable Families

Our Vulnerable Families program provides occupational therapy to support treatment routines, helping families create a calm, happy household.

This grant is also providing financial support to families in crisis and assisting with the costs associated with accessing specialist care including travel and parking. This makes a big difference to families living with cystic fibrosis who experience a high financial burden.

Regional Outreach

Activities in our Regional Outreach Program have also started, however travel to regional communities will predominantly be in the second half of 2022.

We are hosting a series of online Catch Ups for kids this year, inviting children from all over the state to get together online and share their CF experiences. These sessions are facilitated by the CFWA services team and promote connection and reduce isolation for children with CF. Counselling and support is also being provided to regional children through this program.

Chronic Wet Cough

Telethon have also funded a new initiative this year, our Chronic Wet Cough Community Education Program. CFWA is collaborating with the Walyan Respiratory Research Centre on this program.

Bronchiectasis is highly prevalent in the Indigenous population, with diagnosis typically delayed by years. This program is an exciting opportunity to improve local community health knowledge of respiratory disease, enabling early access to critical treatment, preventing serious life limiting disease. Planning is underway for this program to commence activities in regional WA – likely in the second half of 2022.

Thank you to Telethon for your continued support of people living with CF and other respiratory diseases.
