The Casuarina Cougars, a Darwin based Rugby club, raised awareness for cystic fibrosis (CF) at this year’s international Hottest 7’s event held in late January. They named themselves the ‘Cystic Fibrosis Cougars’ for the competition and raised $5,360.20 for Cystic Fibrosis WA by organising special 65 Roses Challenge Jersey’s and hosting a dinner.
The club has a number of connections to CF through previous and current members, including one of the organisers, who is the uncle of a child living with CF in WA. In addition to this, the guest speaker for the evening was Mark Cummins, who has two children with CF. Mark captivated the dinner guests with personal stories about the challenges of being the father of children who have CF.
While the club didn’t win the tournament, falling short of the semi-finals, they said they were very happy with the fundraising dinner as it raised much needed awareness about CF in the community.
Thank you to everyone involved this event, including the organisers, players, attendees and supporters.
