A Multinational Report to Characterise SARS-CoV-2 Infection in People with Cystic Fibrosis

A report published in the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis on the 25th April this year looked at the outcomes of 40 people with CF from 8 countries around the world (11 of whom were lung transplant recipients) who were positive for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

The paper talks about SARS-CoV-2 which may confuse people. Health researchers have begun using SARS-CoV-2 in connection with the recent outbreak. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, shortened to SARS-CoV-2, is actually the virus that causes COVID-19 (the disease)

The report found that the trajectory of the disease in people living with CF was similar to the general population. Whilst the sample size was very small, the outcomes of these early cases have been better than initially predicted. Find the full report here.
