Managing the daily treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF) can be quite challenging, whether you are the parent of a newborn, young child, adolescent, or are an adult living with CF. We have nursing, physiotherapy, social work, education and counselling services to help support your hospital treatment plan. Support is available via phone or email or in the comfort of your own home. Our services team are also available to visit you when you or your child is in hospital.
Our comprehensive home care program includes a Homecare Worker (HCW) service to enable ongoing support in the home.
All referrals to our home support programs are discussed with the primary care team at the treating hospitals. Treatment updates are provided to us and feedback given to the hospital team to enable the best care to be provided to you and your family.
Homecare Worker Service
We have HCWs available in the metropolitan and South West areas to provide regular home visits to children and adults with CF. Our HCW program is funded by the Health Department of WA and offers support for airway clearance, nebulisation, exercise, light home duties and occasional respite. This service is available for anyone with CF and can be accessed by referral from your CF team or you can contact our Physiotherapist via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone 08 6457 7333.
Our HCWs receive intensive training by our CFWA Health Professionals to provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to supervise treatments safely and effectively.
CFWA’s services team make regular visits to both Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) to visit inpatients. This allows us to meet our members and talk with you about the services we can offer and any support you may need.
Part of this service includes delivering a Hospital Bag which contains toiletries, items to help pass the time, and high calorie snacks. Let us know when you’re in hospital so we can pop in for a visit. For more information contact our Services Manager via email (email@example.com) or phone 08 6457 7333.
If your child is admitted to hospital for the first time, we have a ‘My First Admission’ video series which can help you prepare for the admission.

Hospital in the Home (HiTH)
HiTH is a program offered in conjunction with PCH, which enables your child to continue intravenous antibiotic (IVAB) treatment at home with the support of hospital staff and CFWA HCWs. A HiTH nurse will visit regularly to administer IVABs, a PCH physiotherapist will provide morning airway clearance treatment, and a CFWA HCW provides the afternoon session. This service is only available by referral from PCH.
We recently piloted a Personal Training (PT) Program in the southern suburbs of Perth to assist with goal setting and exercise motivation. This service is available in the southern suburbs for anyone over the age of 16 with CF, and can be accessed by referral from your CF team or by contacting us directly. We have plans to expand the PT program to cover more areas in the future.
To access our PT program, contact our Physiotherapist via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone 08 6457 7333.
