An new resource hub for adults with CF
We are excited to launch a brand-new website for adults with cystic fibrosis (CF) today.
This project is important as it signifies that people with CF are living longer and healthier lives.
Until the 1950s, most people with CF didn’t live beyond 5 years old. As understanding of the condition grew and treatments like pancreatic enzymes and airway clearance techniques were introduced, life expectancy began to increase.
In 1989, researchers identified the gene responsible for causing CF. This ground-breaking discovery led to a much deeper understanding of the disease and paved the way for CFTR modulator treatments, a new type of drug that targets the underlying cause of the condition.
There is still no cure for CF, but thanks to these leaps and bounds we have reached a new paradigm. CF is no longer a childhood disease, people with CF are beginning to live long, fulfilled lives.
Now, our challenge is to meet the changing needs of our growing adult CF community. CFStrong will help meet part of that need and complement our growing suite of services and support available for adults with CF.
CFStrong is a website designed and built especially for adults living with CF. It is an online resource full of stories and information, and advice covering topics such as medical questions, employment, relationships and much more.
This project has been made possible with the support of our Project Reference Group as well as many generous people with CF who have shared their stories and experiences for the benefit of others. Thank you to everyone who has shared their time and lived experience with us.
This resource was funded by the Australian Government and is a joint project between Cystic Fibrosis WA and Cystic Fibrosis Community Care.
